Dear Raynet

I have recently become a radio amateur and would like to get involved with Raynet, the only problem is that I’m disabled and the only real thing I could do is man my Radios at home! So would I be wasting my time trying to join?

kind regards

Chris M3WJV

You would be most welcome to join the ranks, and being available from home can be a definite advantage - particularly if telephone access is required and/or you are in a well-sited location .

Not sure of the area you are in - perhaps you could drop me a line at chair@raynet-uk.net and I'll let you have the information on your nearest group.

Hi Chris,

I'm also disabled, but it hasn't stopped me kitting out my V8 4x4 'wheelchair' and operating mobile.  You'd also be highly suited to operating within a Control environment, don't write yourself off just yet!

 Nice one Wayne

But my wheelchair needs to be pushed (no V8) by my Wife or children. Plus I'm not allowed to drive because of all my medication

But I was thinking of adding a SOTA beam to the chairthe 40m Yagi won't fit

I've had too many comments about tuning up my sticks on 2m  one day, one day...

I meet a bloke may years ago. he was in a camper van, and could not walk. he sat merrily there, passing messages to/from the user service with a radio they gave him.
His wife was sitting on a chair outside the camper. knitting, sunbathing and chatting. and on the whole enjoying the being out and about.

as long as you can operate and get into transport (modified or not), there is a job you can do in Raynet.

hi all - also disabled ( mobility and partial sight issues - which is the PC way of saying bleeding arthritis and dodgy eyesight )  - just joined the west Devon group

- as i don't drive now ( eyesight - the joke being is that if i only HAD one eye - i still could , but a stroke / TIA  hit my optic nerve and caused me to have what is known as "upper homomomus quadrantinopia "  or 1/4 loss of vision in each eye ) my transport is limited to a swift and silent mobility scooter  - but hey with a hand held and a power pack - i can get where other vehicles can not LOL

so be interesting to see how they use an ex fire fighter with 22+ years time in  ( sub/o retired )

regards to all
